Grand Duke Jasmine (scientific name Jasminum sambac ‘Grand Duke of Tuscany’) is a jasmine cultivar in the Oleaceae family that is commonly grown in warm-climate regions. The plant has a shrub-like form or a lightly climbing habit, with moderate growth and the ability to remain evergreen under suitable conditions. Its leaves are deep green, glossy, oval-shaped, and oppositely arranged, forming a compact canopy even when the plant is not in bloom. The flowers of Grand Duke Jasmine are white, large, and double, with multiple layers of densely arranged petals that resemble small roses. Flowering occurs in flushes during the growing season, and the blooms release a strong, distinctive fragrance characteristic of sambac jasmine. The scent is generally more pronounced than that of many other jasmine varieties. This plant prefers bright light ranging from full sun to partial sun and grows steadily in warm conditions. It performs well in loose, well-draining, fertile soil, while watering should be kept at a moderate level so the soil remains moist without becoming waterlogged. Grand Duke Jasmine can be planted directly outdoors in areas without frost or grown in containers to allow better control of growing conditions and easier relocation during colder weather. This jasmine variety is primarily cultivated for ornamental purposes and for its fragrance, and it is also used in traditional applications related to perfumery and fresh flowers.
